AT&T Ending Text
AT&T is ending one of its legacy features, announcing it is shuttering its text-to-email and email-to-text features in June.
AT&T has offered the ability to send text messages to email addresses for years, with users formatting the text message recipient’s number in the form of an email address.
Email to text is when you send an email that appears on the AT&T subscriber’s device as an SMS or MMS. You do this by entering the recipient’s 10-digit wireless number, followed by @txt.att.net or @mms.att.net. For example, [email protected] or [email protected]. This also applies to any SMS or MMS message you receive as an email to text on your AT&T device.
Despite the conventience it offered, the company is finally ending the feature, announcing the news in a support article.
On June 17, 2025, our email-to-text and text-to-email service is going away. This means you won’t be able to use email to send or receive texts. Also, others who have AT&T WirelessSM won’t be able to use email to send you a text or use text to send you an email.
It’s unlikely the feature will be missed by many, as modern messaging options have long since surpassed text-to-email. As someone who occasionally still receives these kind of text/emails, this writer can’t wait for this feature to go the way of the dodo.
